Electrophysiology with a neuromorphic analogue VLSI Chip

The "Physiologist's Friend Chip", developed by Tobi Delbrück, is a VLSI implementation of a small part of the early visual pathway. It includes simulated photoreceptors, ganglion cells and an odd and even symmetric V1 simple cell.

I wrote a small linux program to read the spike data from the chip and to createsimple PSTH's. For the A/D conversion, I used a USB board developed at our institute (see this page for the linux kernel driver) and relies on the Comedi framework.

Elective in Stirling

Matthias used the program in a final year elective at Stirling University to demonstrate receptive field properties and simple visual illusions (Mach Band, Herman Grid).

Bernd Porr is using the program in the lecture/lab "Psychology of Perception".
